Is counseling/therapy for me?

The answer is yes, many times we are aware something is just not right with (us.) We struggle with problems, issues, and self-defeating patterns and behaviors. Often blaming ourselves and others for the condition of our lives while stuck in self-defeating thoughts, and behaviors, and living a life driven by fear and self-doubt.  Everyone can use help at some point in their life. Together we will explore and identify your strengths and how to put them to use to address the problems you are facing.

Why use a counselor/therapist?

Why use a trained mental health professional to help guide you through your journey to better mental health and life? It takes a trained mental health professional to help guide you through solving problems. Your trained counselor/therapist will ask certain questions to help discover a solution. This will empower you to make healthier choices and live a more fulfilling life.

Will medication alone solve my problems?

Medication is great at helping treat symptoms while therapy gives you the skills to address problems and develop skills needed to overcome problems.  Medication is not always the solution, addressing mental health issues in therapy might prevent the need for medication. A Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner can assess if medications will help.

What happens next?

You will meet with the therapist and talk about what brought you to therapy and discuss the goals you have. Goals will be agreed upon and progress will be monitored and measured. Then sessions began. Everyone seeking therapy presents with problems that are unique to them, these will be identified and addressed.  The length of +their varies. Some problems can be addressed over a few sessions and others will take longer.

Many have attempted to address problems on their own, others have attempted to forget or drown out their problems by engaging in self defeating behaviors. Pursuing help is a powerful first step.
